Vintage Affair

3 July 2014

Another crisp evening in the “Jacaranda City” as friends and family of CHS join the Professional Cookery students for a Vintage Affair.  The theme was set to be a Vintage Affair “with flair” with table settings to reflect the mood and ambiance.

Friends and family traveled from far and wide to experience the warm atmosphere and professional service of the team.

The charity of choice for the evening was Child Welfare Tshwane, with Celia Lourens as CHS-guest joining the event.

The evening kicked off with an Amuse Bouche of Chicken and Cucumber Terrine; followed by a hearty Creamy Butternut and Orange Soup with a selection of freshly baked bread rolls.  The starter was expertly paired with a crisp Theuniskraal Semillon Chardonnay (2013) to complement the earthy notes in the butternut.

Main course was portions of Stuffed Lamb Roll set on a Leek and Onion Risotto accompanied by a Mélange of Seasonal Vegetables.  The Lamb Roll called for a wine with some substance and personality of its own and the KWV 2013 Shiraz did the job.

Dessert and Friandise was every dessert-lover’s dream with Vanilla Sponge Cake served with Red Wine Poached Pear and Turkish Delight Ice Cream, and to finish the Vintage Affair off with some French flair the kitchen presented dainty home-made Chocolate Éclairs.

A huge “thank you” to the sponsors of the Raffle Prizes:

  • The Garden Court Hatfield Hotel for one night’s accommodation for two people.
  • A beautiful Fresh Water Pearl Necklace (to compliment the theme of the evening).
  • A bottle of Rietvalleu Red Muscadel (2011)
  • A bottle of JC Le Roux Le Domaine
