City & Guilds Approved Centre

CHS is an approved City and Guilds of London Centre 843258 and six of their International Vocational Qualifications are incorporated in our learner programmes.

City & Guilds examinations and practical assessments are done alongside CHS examinations and practical assessments for the student to achieve both a national framework qualification and an internationally recognised qualification.

South African Chefs Association (SACA)

CHS is a Professional Member of SACA and all the Professional Cookery and Pastry learners receive Junior Membership from SACA.


The Capital Hotel School and Training Academy has been accredited to present the National Certificate in Food preparation and Cooking and continues its accreditation process in its other areas of training with CATHSSETA (Culture, Arts, Tourism, Hospitality & Sport Sector Education and Training Authority).

Quality Council for Trade & Occupations (QCTO)qcto-high-res-logo-171014

The Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) is a Quality Council established in 2010 in terms of the Skills Development Act.

Its role is to oversee the design, implementation, assessment and certification of occupational qualifications on the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework (OQSF).

Registered as a Skills Development Provider (SDP 1220/16/038) for Occupational Certificate: Chef (Qualification code: 94941) for a duration of five years.

South African Board for People Practices (SABPP)

The Capital Hotel School and Training Academy (CHS) is proud to announce that it is now an accredited member of the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP).

Being the very first hotel school and hospitality management training establishment in South Africa to obtain accreditation from SABPP, CHS clearly distinguishes itself in the market. Our management students will receive SABPP certification at graduation for certain of their Human Resource Management modules on the successful completion of same.

Cape Wine Academy (CWA)

At the end of the first year of studies, all learners attend the Tertiary Preliminary Wine Course. The course is presented by a qualified Cape Wine Academy facilitator. The successful completion of this course (pass) is a pre-requisite for graduation.

The course consists of theoretical classes and practical tasting sessions. A food and wine pairing session is part of the course and this demonstrates the pairing of various food tastes with wine styles. Once this course has been completed, learners will be able to further their studies through the Cape Wine Academy. The next level will be a certificate and then a diploma, after which they can study toward becoming a Cape Wine Master.

First Aid TrainingRed_First_Aid_Logo_2

Learners will complete an outsourced course in First Aid on a Level One grade during the 2-year study period. This will enable them to provide first aid before paramedics or an ambulance arrives at an accident scene in the workplace or in public areas. This course is based on theory and practical demonstrations.


Note: The CWA Tertiary Preliminary Wine Course and First Aid training are included in all CHS full-time qualifications.

Life-long Learning

In accordance with CHS policy regarding life-long learning, learners can further their studies in the workplace on successful completion of the suggested City and Guilds Diploma courses up to Advanced Diplomas in Reception and Front Office Services, Accommodation Operations and Services, Food and Beverage Services Supervision and Food Preparation and Cookery Supervision.


Exciting developments in CHS curricula will result in the opportunity to complete various levels of the full time qualifications over a period of time which will incorporate work-life and studies to prepare an individual for the challenging world of a hospitality professional.

Blended learning modules will be presented from 2017 – development underway.

Chaîne des Rôtisseurs

CHS has been awarded a Blazon by the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs – an international society devoted to choice dining and the camaraderie of the table. Chaîne des Rôtisseurs creates bonds of friendship across cultures and boundaries. It promotes the art of fine cuisine amongst both amateur and professional gastronomes, and supports the development of young culinary professionals.
